Masking tape in two strengths: low tack, which lifts off watercolour paper and dry paint without tearing the surface, and general masking tape for labelling and studio jobs.
Alongside them are double sided tape for mounting, clear and invisible tape for repairs, and black cloth gaffer tape for anything that has to hold.
The adhesive. Low tack is weaker, so it comes away from paper, dry paint and finished work without lifting the surface. General masking tape grips harder, which suits labelling and decorating but can tear a painting.
Low tack. Press it along the edge you want to keep clean, paint up to it and lift it once the paint is dry. Take it off within a day or two, as the hold builds up over time.
Treat it as permanent. It suits mounting work onto board and card. If you might want to move something later, use a repositionable mounting spray instead.
No. Gaffer tape is cloth-backed with a matte finish, tears cleanly by hand and leaves far less residue. Duct tape is shinier and stickier, and harder to remove cleanly.
Low tack masking tape. It holds the paper flat while you work and lifts off the edges cleanly when you're done.
